Cinematography -Mr Bush (:

Its a Wonderful Life (1946)
Its a Wonderful Life's genre is a drama, fantasy and romance. The movie is about an angel helps a compassionate but despairingly frustrated businessman by showing what life would have been like if he never existed.

The cinematography used in the particular scene are: firstly, at the beginning you see a medium-long shot of a little girl in bed, she calls in the protagonist, her father, with a long shot and as he walks they us panning. By using a long shot, the audience are able to see the type of character he is by the way he is dressed. He is dressed smartly with a suit and a tie, however his posture is not straight and he slouching connoting his character is not really interested and does not care about what is doing or how he looks because, maybe, his job takes a lot of energy out of him or just does not appreciate his life.

Secondly, there is a close up to the petals that fell on the little girls bed, which could connote those petals are foreshadowing something that will come up later on in the movie. They continue to use panning and focus on the protagonist, by using panning it allows the audience to follow the moving image smoothly with their eye. There is another close up of the protagonist putting the petals in his pocket pretending he had stuck the petals back on to the flower.
Finally, another close up is shown of the two characters in that seen to allow us to see facial expressions and only focus on them instead of the mise-en-scene.

Eyes Wide Shut (1999) (stop at one minute)
Eyes Wide Shuts genre is drama, mystery and thriller. the movie is about a New York City doctor, who is married to an art curator, pushes himself on a harrowing and dangerous night-long adventures of sexual and moral discovery after his wife admits that she once almost cheated on him.

The cinematography used in the particular scene are: firstly, they use a medium-long shot and panning to show the settings and the clothing the man is wearing and then there is a sudden jump to a close up with a man in a gold musk and white face, it is a close up allowing the audience to concentrate on the facial expressions on that man, which is just a straight face connoting seriousness and intensity.

Secondly, there is tracking shot of a group of people doing some ritual and then a zoom to two people on the top balcony and they turn and face the camera, connoting something is going to occur due to these men./women. there is a shot reverse shot used and you are looking up at the men, low angle shot, connoting the importance of the men/women in that particular room. Then there is a long shot to show the whole room and what exaclty is going on, showing the audience different angles of the room and ritual connoting what everyone is looking at. they go to a scene of a taxi driving, which could show someone important is in that taxi and is the main protagonist or hero to stop something bad to happen.

Finally, there is a zoom out of a women and man eating grapes (or some sort of fruit), and then a zoom of becoming intimate, as it zooms in the audience is able to see the type of expression on the ladies face and she does not look too comfortable, which could connote she could be leading him on for the ritual to take place or she feels guilty about almost cheating on her husband.

The key difference in these two movies are: most of the angles shot in Its a Wonderful Life if they use natural movements like panning, but for Eyes Wide Shut they use tracking shots.

Four Still Images:

The Ring

In the image of 'The Ring', the type of angle the shot is a medium long shot. The reason for this is because you are able to see the setting and also you are able to see the facial expressions on the lady, which persuades the audience to see further in too. If you have not seen this movie and you see this image you are persuaded by the facial expressions to see how and why she is screaming and frightened.
The Last Exorcism:

The image above shows a long shot of the girl and man looking as if he is going to perform a ritual or some sort of prayer on the girl for her to release the demon from her. This picture is effective due to the type on angle it shot in because you are able to see the what exactly is going on and the mise-en-scene which is every appealing and allows the audience to get their own view on what exactly is happening, instead of being told from a picture whats happening, they are able to have their own view, as your are unable to make out the facial expressions.

Mary Poppins:
The type of shot taken in the picture about is a medium shot, this is effected because you can see the facial expressions and the mise-en-scene allowing the audience to be empathetic to the characters.

Harry Potter:
In this still image of Harry Potter you can see a high angle shot, medium shot to see the environment they are in, their facial expressions but you are unable to understand what they are looking at. Judging from watching some harry potter films, it has some relevance to an adventure they are going to go on. This is effective because the audience are able to understand what is going on but are also able to make some assumptions on what they may be looking for.
